The author wrote this brief fable in order to indicate that the most valueless boon of life is DEATH. My interpretation of this fable is that all the boons of life should be and only will be enjoyed on the basis of being aware and alarmed of DEATH. It is understandable that it is because life is this short that our lives become meaningful.
