Time Machine is a classic science fiction novel written by George Wells,
which depicts what a "time traveler" saw and heard by
traveling by time machine. The novel shows the destruction of ecological
nature caused by Anthropocentrism with the development of science and
technology, and the degeneration of human nature in the process of
scientific and technological development. In previous literary reviews,
this work has been regarded as Wells' representative work and the
pioneering work of British science fiction. This work, based on the
theory of evolution and skillfully combined with the Marxist theory of
Class conflict, presents us a dark and dying future world, profoundly
criticizes the social evils and moral crisis caused by the development
of scientific and technological civilization, and expresses the author's
concern about the current situation and future of mankind.Among them,
the embodiment of the theory of evolution and Class conflict in this
work is recognized by the literary critics. More literary critics
analyze the work from the perspective of ecology, sociology and utopia
theory, but it is not common to analyze the theory of evolution and
Class conflict from the perspective of the Unity of opposites. From a
certain point of view, there is such a "Unity of opposites"
relationship between evolutionism and Class conflict theory in this
work, that is, they cannot be viewed separately, and they are both
included in the text and opposite to each other.
