About Ren and Li
After reading the part of ren and li in the book which were proposed by Confucius as two core concepts of his doctrine about people, I learnt a lot about them.
First, the most important interpretation of ren is the universal love of people, and this kind of love should begin with the love of one's parents, just as the ancients said that "Filial piety comes first". Love your parents first, then you can love others, in Confucius' eyes, love for others can be summarized as "Do not do to others what you do not want." Ren means that the benevolent loves others, loves his parents, loves the people, loves everything in the world.
Second, l i refers to rituals, traditions and norms in social life and the role of li is to maintain harmony among people. According to the book, li can not only maintain social order and express children's love for their parents through etiquette norms, but also enable people to experience the eternal continuation of life through burial rituals and ancestral worship rituals, rich in social educational functions and philosophical significance.
In summation, ren and li, the core essence of Confucianism, are committed to educating the people and creating a harmonious society. They are practical and full of philosophical implications, they are influencing the Chinese nation even for thousands of years, and they finally became an indelible mark in Chinese civilization through the tempering of history.
