Noisy world, quiet self
余温白xg
This is one of the few English novels I've read, and I think
it's very meaningful. Inside the yellowed pages, I had been reading
Dickens's Great Expectations in a state of awe. In a trance, I seemed to
see his sad smile, heavy to me can only quietly perfunctory past, this
is wrong, but fortunately from his plain language, I can still read his
kind smile, in his design of the perfect story chain, I am willing to
fall. Since my English level is also limited, now I write a book
review with an empty head, and I do not have the gushing thoughts I
imagined, but I still feel a lot. The theme of love, I think, runs
through Great Expectations. There is no doubt that this kind of society
described by Dickens is full of pessimism: vulgar, cruel, uneducated
villains can get wealth through inheritance and exploitation to become
"upper class", and the kind and simple Joe, who can only work
as a blacksmith in the humble country; Miss Havisham, who believes in
pure feelings, falls into a marriage trap, and her money is empty;
Scammers who are full of fraud can take advantage of loopholes in the
law to repeatedly get away with murder, while kind-hearted fugitives are
repeatedly forced by uneducated people, framed, and finally die in
prison. The narrow streets, the cinder-strewn hotels, the grey
skies, and the filthy prisons all represented the darkness and crime of
industrial society. On the contrary, the country where Joe and PIP lived
when they were young, though ordinary and humble in the author's
description, is always sunny and flowery. The countryside and the simple
Joe in the novel represent the innocence and kindness of the human
heart, and the return of PIP at the end, I believe, is the author's
perfect wish for the human heart. More precious than money and
"great expectations" is a simple and kind heart, and the more
fierce the tide of money worship, the more this heart can reflect the
perfection of human nature. It may not bring people a glamorous life or
high social status, but it can make life full of humanity. This is the
most precious treasure in life. The brilliance of true love in human
nature is opposed to the rejection of those worldly people. I believe
that after reading this book, everyone's heart can not be calm for a
long time, and I believe that in the near future, we are all in the
noisy world, achieving a quiet self.
