Shocking Ending
The Adventure of the Sussex Vampire tells us a story that a woman tried to save her baby who was hurt by his brother but was mistaken as a vampire. So her husband refused her to meet her son. Finally Sherlock Holmes found out the truth and proved that the woman was a great mother.
In general, the story is so attractive and shocking. The ending of the story makes me feel so surprised. At the beginning of the story, the case is introduced and Sherlock Holmes’s attitude to the case ranges from indifferent to interested, which may attract reader’s attention. Then with the appearance of the members of the house, Sherlock Holmes finds more and more clues. Finally he finds out the truth, solving the case perfectly. Although I believe that the young woman is not the vampire from the beginning of the story, I fail to think up the truth. When Jacky appears I have ever thought that he hurts his brother but I don’t think about how cruel he is.
What’s more, the character of the story leaves deep impressions on me. The young woman, so kind a mother loves her children so much. She saves her baby but is mistaken as a vampire and can’t approximate her baby. She educates Jacky because he hurts the baby but her husband think it’s because she doesn’t like him. Although she is blamed unjustly but she doesn’t tell her husband the truth for the reason that she won’t to hurt him. Being blamed unjustly doesn’t makes her sad. What really hurts she is her husband doesn’t trust in her. I think she is not only a fond mother but also a virtuous wife. But in my opinion she ought to tell her husband the truth. Although it would upset him, only telling him the truth can solve the problem and avoid the same situation happening again. Another person I can’t but mention is Sherlock Holmes. He finds out the truth and clarifies the husband’s understanding about the woman. He is wealthy in knowledge so when he undertakes the case he says that it may not be vampire but a method to save others. He hardly miss any detail. He is so careful that he can discover clues anywhere, even a little ordinary dog. His carefulness is worth learning.
In a word, The Adventure of the Sussex Vampire is a book worth reading. From the book we can read about the great mother’s love and the carefulness of a detective, making readers be grateful to mothers and learn to be careful people.
