Reflection
The novel is based on the colonial era of America over two hundred years ago, but it exposes the cruelty of the social laws, religious deceit, and moral hypocrisy of the United States of America during the development of capitalism in the 19th century. The protagonist Hester is portrayed as the embodiment of noble morality. She not only influenced the inconsistent Dimmesdale, but also influenced a society full of evil.
Although she was abused for the scarlet sigh all the time since she was free from the prison, she kept the real secret in her heart. What’s worth mentioning was that she had a cute baby girl that encouraged her during that hard time.
However, I felt desperate for this story. She had a wrong marriage and bore the blame for her love. In my view, a woman should love herself before loving others. She lose fame for love, on the contrary, the man she loved chose to die for guilty in the end.
