Simple but hard to understand

It‘s always hard for me to understand Hemingway’s works, this one is no exception. The plot of the story is simple, but what the author want to tell the readers is far more complex. Maybe comprehension varies from person to person. For me, it's merely a simple and sorrowful love tragedy.
