Are Maxims Really Utilit?
Benjamin Franklin, one of the fathers of the U.S.,left many maxims to us after his pass. Most of his maxims are thought of great beneafit. Many parents ask their children to behave as Franklin said. Seriously speaking, however, are these maxims really help form a "Healthy, wealthy and wise life"?
As Mr.Mark Twain said :"I wish I had been the father of my parents long enough to make them comprehend this truth, and thus prepare them to let their son have an easier time of it." To be honest, as far as I`m concerned, what Mr.Twain wanted to say in this essay was this rather than cynics towards Franklin. How did this come about? Maybe as a politician, scientist, litterateur who born in an impoverished family, Franklin has been regarded as a perfect man. His words and demeanors seem to be undoubtful consequently. The consequence? One of the most obvious consequence is that his maxims have been the rules for parents` tyranny against children like Mr.Twain said :"When I was a child I had to boil soap, notwithstanding my father was wealthy, and I had to get up early and study geometry at breakfast, and peddle own peotry, and do every thing just as Franklin did." What was the reason for his father`s asking him doing as Franklin? Because not only Twain`s father but also many other parents believed that their kids could become as successful as Franklin if being asked to do as Franklin.
My opinion is the same as Mr.Twain`s, which is just let kids lead their own life, not Franklin`s life, not Lincoln`s, not washington`s, but just life of their own.
