Book Review
刘宇茵
I read this old book Rural China with great enthusiasm for sociology,
and I was deeply touched after reading it. As Mr. Fei said, this book is
an attempt to answer the question of what kind of society is the local
society of China's grassroots society. The rural China mentioned here is
not a specific sketch of Chinese society, but a special system contained
in a specific Chinese grassroots traditional society, which dominates
all aspects of social life. This book vividly and comprehensively shows
the face of rural China from the aspects of locality, writing going to
the countryside, poor order pattern, maintaining private morality,
family, gender differences, order of etiquette, no litigation,
incompetence politics, elder rule, geographical and blood relationship,
separation of name and reality, from desire to needs. Appearance. Each
chapter has a lot of feelings, and here we will explain the thinking
about "earth" separately. "Although we say that the
countryside is rustic, it seems to have a little contemptuous, but this
local word is well used. The basic meaning of the word earth refers to
soil. Rural people can't live without the soil, because farming is the
most common way to make a living in the countryside. Admittedly, in
today's society, urban people are used to using rustic and rustic brains
to despise rural people. However, only those who make a living by
farming understand the value of soil. Soil is their lifeblood, a noble
symbol, a sense of simplicity, and a down-to-earth and heavy return to
nature. Our nation is inseparable from the soil. It has a glorious
history from the soil, which occupies a special position in our culture.
In this sense, why should we respect the countryside, farmers and our
own culture?
