A Christmas Carol is a classic novel by British writer Charles Dickens and is considered one of the most popular Christmas stories in the history of world literature. This novel is famous in the world for its profound description of human nature and unique style, which gives readers many precious enlightenment and comprehension.
The country book to the gentleman Ebenezer. Scrooge is the main character. He is a dashing and shy businessman who lives a very frugal and lonely life. Scrooge loved money. Money was the most important thing in the world to him. However, on a cold and dark Christmas Eve, he is visited by three ghosts in succession, and this turning point changes his life.
The first ghost, the Undead Marley Scrooge, was Scrooge's partner in his youth. He tells Scrooge that money is not the only pursuit, but should be concerned with the well-being of others and social contribution. The second ghost, the Ghost of Love in the past, shows Scrooge the happy times of his youth and his separation from the beautiful woman Belle, both due to his pursuit of money. The third ghost, the Coming Spirit Ghost, tells Scrooge that if he does not change his morals and behavior, he will face a future of loneliness and misery. Through the visits of the three ghosts, Scrooge begins to reflect on his life and values.
The novel "A Christmas Carol" made me deeply realize that money is not the only pursuit in life. In his pursuit of wealth, Scrooge loses his emotional connection to others and the warmth of his humanity. He was lonely and stubborn in his pursuit of money, but neglected interpersonal relationships and social responsibilities. The story tells us that money can bring us material enjoyment and security, but it can't bring us true happiness and satisfaction.
Through Scrooge's awakening, the author conveys an important message to the reader: to cherish the emotional bond between people and care about the happiness and well-being of others, in order to truly obtain inner joy and satisfaction. After being warned by the ghosts, Scrooge changes his attitude towards life, begins to care about others, is ready to help others, and finally finds his lost happiness.
