Jane Eyre is one of the representative works of Charlotte Bronte, an English novelist. Charlotte was born in 1816 in Howworth, Yorkshire, in the north of England, to a country parson's family. The author created "Jane Eyre" when the United Kingdom has been the world's number one industrial power, but the status of British women has not changed, still in a subordinate, dependent status, women's survival goal is to marry into the rich family, even if not born in the rich family, but also strive to obtain wealth and status through marriage, the only choice for women's career is to be a good wife, a good mother. Women who work as writers are considered to be against legitimate femininity and will be fiercely attacked by men. From the fact that Charlotte's sisters used masculine pseudonyms in their works, we can imagine what kind of difficulties women writers faced at that time. Jane Eyre was written under this passive background. The novel tells the story of Jane Eyre, an orphan girl, whose parents died when she was young, and who was placed in foster care with her aunt, where she was abused and sent to Lowood School by her aunt. Lowood School was a harsh environment, but she stubbornly survived. Two years after graduation, Jane applied to earn a living as a governess. The master Rochester is melancholy and temperamental, but after a long time of contact, Jane found that Rochester is kind-hearted, upright and resolute, and gradually developed feelings for him. When they are married in the church, Jane is distressed to discover that Rochester has a mad wife, Bertha Antoinette Mason. Jane left sadly. Later, her estranged uncle John Eyre died of illness and bequeathed her a huge fortune. Unable to forget her love for Rochester, she returned to her hometown, only to know that a few months ago, the mad woman died of arson, Rochester saved her one eye was smashed out, and the other eye was inflamed and could not see Jane immediately went to him to pour out her feelings, and the two people finally got married. Later, Rochester had an eye repaired in London and had a boy with Jane Eyre. Through the protagonist Jane Eyre and other female characters, the novel portrays a brave, strong, independent and confident female image, showing how they gain courage and strength from themselves to pursue their dreams in a world full of various difficulties and setbacks.
