读公墓里的妓女及其他有感
郑凯欣
The Prostitute in the Cemetery is a short story by Maupassant, a famous
French critical realist writer in the 19th century, which reflects the
life of prostitutes in France at that time. The story describes a clever
prostitute who goes to the cemetery on a whim to seduce men depressed by
the loss of a woman, mistress or wife and longing for the caress of the
past. She profits from the rekindled nostalgia in the cemetery.
"The Whore in the Cemetery" makes it clear that those noble
thoughts, feelings and moral qualities have gradually vulgarized in some
people to the point of disappearing completely. The prostitute image
created by Maupassant vividly expresses his appeal to the. high moral
character of mankind.A little deep and thought - provoking at the same time
