not only a weird
陈栀绪升天说
The concept of # Science Fiction Bicentennial is indisputable, but
Sister Shelley's genius has had a far greater impact on the modern
horror genre than science fiction. It represents the pinnacle and
afterglow of noir romantic Gothic literature, and is a typical example
of the grotesque and Arabesque style that has been studied recently. The
use of nested narrative structures and multiple styles, the immersion of
the "voluntary suspension of doubt" into the sense of reality
and the fallibility of narrative, these techniques have not become
obsolete until modern horror novels such as The Turning of the Screw.
The discussion of the literary tradition followed by this work has
become a prominent subject. From mythological metaphors of fire thieves
and fallen angels, parodies and mirrors of Paradise lost and creation,
to ancient legends of murder, revenge, suspense and supernatural terror.
So why does this work survive as a work of science fiction? Very simply,
if there were no concepts and elements with the background of modern
scientific times such as artificial man and the Arctic route, I think
this work would decline along with Gothic novels. How to avoid repeating
the fate of Gothic in science fiction is worth thinking about by all
science fiction writers and scholars.
