Book Review
The Mob is a classic work by French social psychologist Gustave Le Pen, first published in 1895. This book is regarded as the founding work of group psychology, in-depth analysis of group psychology and its behavioral characteristics. In the book, Le Pen describes the general characteristics of group psychology in detail, and analyzes the psychological, moral and behavioral characteristics of people in the state of groups.
One of the most classic arguments in the book is that when a person integrates into a group, intelligence is severely reduced, personality is annihilated, thought independence is lost, and group thought takes over. Ms Le Pen's argument that crowds are ignorant, impulsive and fickle is poignant, but not without merit. By analyzing the performance of revolutionary groups in the French Revolution, he reveals the complexity and diversity of group behavior.
The Mob explores not only how individuals react in groups, but also the role of leaders in groups, isolated people, and racial perceptions. These views of Le Pen provide important insights into the behavior patterns of human society, although some of the book may seem outdated due to the constraints of the time.
This book is also of great help to people engaged in or studying politics, economy, management and other fields, and there are many worthy references in the study of the psychology of voter groups and parliamentary groups. However, some readers feel that the book is not very rigorous, and the second half of the book is slightly disappointed.
Overall, The Mob was a seminal work that not only opened the door to the study of group psychology and behavior, but also had an important impact on the understanding and thinking of modern society. Through reading this book, readers can more deeply understand the characteristics of group behavior and its operating mechanism, so as to better grasp the true meaning of human behavior.
