our little prince

The Little Prince is not only a children's book, but also a book which can make some profound and idealistic observations about life and human nature. The author Saint-Exupéry dedicated this book Leon Werth. We have to lay emphasis on the process of how the author corrected his dedication. The main reason for him to change his dedication is that he noticed that all grown-ups were once children, although few of them remember it. We all used to be a child, but when we become to be an adult, we all lose those precious and valuable characters we had as a child. So in my perspective the Little Prince is a really sad story about love and responsibility. We can't consider it as a simple fairy tale for children.

The little prince was from a planet only the size of a house. His way of thinking was totally different from those foolish adults who had already lost their imagination, because his heart hadn't been polluted by the complex society. Once, I read a book and it said that "I'm not crazy, I'm just different from the rest." I think this might be the best description for the little prince. In the beginning of the book, the pilot

made his first drawing of a boa constrictor digesting an elephant. However, the grown-ups couldn’t understand it. They thought it was a picture of a hat. Those grown-ups might think the pilot was crazy, but actually he was only different from them. What happened to the pilot is also likely to happen to us. When many of us face the society, we won’t be understood if we don’t change our way of thinking as a child. Grown-ups may think we are crazy. So the society forces us to bring ourselves down to the level of grown-ups. And day after day, we all forget that we were once a child, that we used to be crazy in others opinion. The change makes every one sad. And that is why the Little Prince can be so popular and affect so many people.

Among the whole book, the part that touches me most are the words that the fox said to the little prince. When the prince came upon a whole row of rosebushes, he became downcast because he thought his rose was unique. He began to feel that he was not a great prince at all, as his planet contained only three tiny volcanoes and a flower he now thought of as common. At this time the fox explained to him that his rose really was unique and special, because she was the one whom the prince loves. In other words, it is the time you have devoted to your rose that makes your rose so important. The fox also explained that "You become responsible, forever, for what you have tamed”  If someone tames another, that means that they build a relationship between them. Then you are my only choice in this world, and I’m also your only choice. This is what the fox taught the little prince. This has a great impact on the little prince, making him know what is love. And we are unique for those who have devoted a lot of time to us. Love is unforgettable and attractive because we have spent so many time on each other. Love is so important for every one because we have dedicated so much to each other. What the fox had was a pure love between he and the little prince. This pure love reminds us who have forgotten that we were once a child that when we love others we should spend some time and keep our way of thinking as a child.

The fox tells the little prince that one sees clearly only with the heart, that what is essential is invisible to the eye. This is also what we need to know, the key for us to really understand the Little Prince.
