Reading The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, I kept asking myself:
"What if I were in Huck’s shoes?" He's taught that slaves are
"property," yet he chooses to respect Jim’s humanity, even
declaring, "I’ll go to hell" to protect him. That courage
really struck me hard—we’re often constrained by societal norms, but
Huck shows that true growth lies in staying loyal to your conscience,
not just blindly following "rules." The hypocrisy he exposes
also hit me hard: those "respectable" folks who preach
morality yet murder each other over trivial matters. Closing the book, I
couldn’t help but wonder: "Am I blindly obeying societal
norms?" Huck taught me that maturity isn’t about compliance—it’s
about discerning right from wrong and acting on it, regardless of the cost.
