Why Sherlock Holmes is a Classic

Sherlock Holmes is one of the best characters in all of literature. He is brilliant but also a little strange. His friend, Dr. Watson, tells the stories. Watson is kind and normal, so he is easy to relate to. The books are set in old London. The atmosphere is dark and foggy, perfect for mysteries. Arthur Conan Doyle, the author, writes very good puzzles. You can try to solve the mystery before Holmes does, but it is very difficult! The stories are not too long, and the language is clear. I would recommend starting with "A Study in Scarlet," the first book, or "The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes," a collection of short stories.
