The story follows Sinbad, a young sailor who embarks on seven
adventurous voyages. In each journey, he encounters countless dangers:
he fights against fierce monsters, gets trapped on mysterious islands,
and faces the brink of death several times. However, Sinbad never
surrenders to hardships. With his courage, wisdom, and a bit of luck, he
always manages to turn crises into opportunities, gains wealth and
experiences, and finally returns home safely. What makes the story more
appealing is that it is not just a tale of adventures; it also reflects
Sinbad’s growth—from a reckless young man eager for fortune to a mature
man who cherishes life and understands the true meaning of happiness.
Reading this book brings me two main takeaways. First, courage is the
key to overcoming difficulties. In our college life, we may encounter
various challenges, such as tough courses, complicated interpersonal
relationships, or pressure from future plans. Just like Sinbad, we
should not be afraid of setbacks, but face them bravely and find ways to
solve problems. Second, we should maintain a humble and grateful heart.
Sinbad sometimes becomes arrogant when he accumulates wealth, which
leads to new troubles. This reminds me that no matter how much we
achieve, we should never forget where we come from and always be
thankful for the help we receive from others. Overall, Sinbad the
Sailor is a wonderful book suitable for English learners at the CET-4
level. The language is not too difficult, and the exciting stories and
profound insights make it a worthwhile read. It not only improves my
English reading skills but also teaches me valuable life lessons.
