Jane Eyre, written by Charlotte Brontë, is an everlasting classic of
English literature. Published in 1847, the novel breaks the traditional
image of passive heroines in Victorian literature and shapes an
impressive female figure with dignity, independence and courage. Born
poor and ordinary-looking, Jane Eyre suffers unfair treatment and
loneliness in her childhood. However, she never yields to fate or social
prejudice. Throughout her life, she insists on spiritual equality,
self-respect and sincere love. Her most famous words fully reveal her
belief: “We are equal in the sight of God.”
