Book Review of The Crowd The Crowd: A Study of the Popular Mind was
written by Gustave Le Bon. It is a classic work on group psychology.
Le Bon argues that individuals lose self-control and reason once they
join a crowd. People become impulsive, emotional and easy to be
influenced. Their judgment drops sharply. Collective feelings spread
quickly, and personal moral sense disappears. A crowd often acts blindly
without thinking. The book explains why public opinion can easily be
controlled. Many social phenomena can be explained by his theories.
Though some ideas are controversial, this book helps us understand mass
behaviour. It reminds us to keep independent thinking and avoid
following others blindly. It is well worth reading for anyone who cares
about social psychology.
