Old Man and the Sea
宛如
The Old Man and the Sea, written by Ernest Hemingway, tells a tough
fisherman’s battle with a giant marlin far out at sea. The old man
finally loses his catch to sharks, yet he never gives up fighting.
Hemingway creates the spirit of “grace under pressure”. Though the old
man fails to bring back the fish, he wins spiritual victory. His
perseverance teaches me that true heroism lies in never surrendering to
difficulties. Simple words carry powerful strength. This short novel
fully shows Hemingway’s “tough guy” style and deserves its status as a
classic for English majors.
