It's not easy to understand an indigenous American fiction of the last century,especially there are a large number of complex adjectives,nouns and slangs in it.
The Poet and the Peasant is a novel written by O. Henry,who was famous for his novels with ingenious ideas and unexpected endings.There seemed to be no connection between the poet and the peasant ,however,they had similar experience.
The unknown poet wrote a poem about real life and sent it to the editor but was rejected while the empty talk of a famous poet was highly praised.Similarly,no matter how many times the peasant dressed in rags said he had 950 dollars,nobody believed him.Sarcastically,the moment he put on clean as well as tidy clothes and went out,he became the target of the thieves and was stole immediately.
In the final analysis it is due to their fame as well as dress that the poet and the peasant were treated like that.
No one can guarantee that goods of high price must be of high quality.Analogously,it's an improper and unreliable behavior to judge someone only by his surface or his fame.
