Author : Antoine de Saint-Exupery

Brief summary :

The novel is mean to criticize the bad personalities of grow-ups and wish to call back an innocent and pure mental world that is full of love by telling the experiences that little prince experienced on his travel.

About the author :

Antoine de Saint-Exupery ( Antoine Marie Jean-Baptiste Roger de Saint-Exupéry ) is a Frenchman , he is famous for being the writer of << The Little Prince >> , but he is a pilot at the same time . One year after << The Little Prince >> was published , he joined the army to fight against Nazi German for his country . On 31st , July , 1944 , he disappeared while doing a flight mission . 60 years later , the aircraft wreckage of him was found in the Marseille sea .

The first time I have read << The little prince >> I was attracted by the simple world formed by the author and the fresh and refined writing of him. Just like the author wrote in the preface , " To Leon Werth , when he was a little boy", it is a fairy tale that belongs to all the adults, who have ever had childishness. Because children were not able to understand the sadness and the deep and strong love of the little prince. In fact, I think it is a tragedy rather than a fairy tale. The protagonists in fairy tale such as the Snow White, Cinderella would finally live a happy life, but the little prince finally died in a desert after finding the true essence of love.

The novel tells the experiences that little prince experienced on his travel. He fell in love with a beautiful rose . But she was so arrogant, so little prince left the B-2 planet where he and the rose lived. He then have traveled six planet , where he met some adults that he thought wouldn't listen to reason, a hubris king, a merchant who worship money like his life, a pedantic lamplighter......."The adult world indeed is weird." The author illuminated those void, blindness and ignorance of adults through the little prince's eyes, then he also illuminated adults' loneliness and not knowing what to do. I also felt sad for my gradually losing childishness. Maybe one day, I would also become a greedy businessman? Maybe one day, I would also forget my dream?

Finally, the little prince arrived Earth, on which he met "me" and a fox. The fox teach him how to solve the problem the delicate rose brought to him, and made him know that love also means responsibility, mercy and tolerance. Love makes people sad and painful, but love also makes people out of loneliness, makes life much meaningful. And being loved makes people(or other things) so important and unique in all the world. Just as the fox said to the little prince," To me, you are still nothing more than a little boy who is just like a hundred thousand other little boys. And I have no need of you. And you, on your part, have no need of me. To you, I am nothing more than a fox like a hundred thousand other foxes. But if you tame me, then we shall need each other. To me, you will be unique in all the world. To you, I shall be unique in all the world." And the love little prince gave to his rose made her unique in all the world . Then the fox said , " Men have forgotten this truth. But you must not forget it . You become responsible , forever , for what you have tamed . You are responsible for your rose....... " And then , he knew the true meaning of love . He said to "me" , " The wheat fields have nothing to say to me . And that is sad. But you have hair that is the color of gold . Think how wonderful that will be when you have tamed me ! The grain , which is also golden , will bring me back the thought of you . And I shall love to listen to the wind in the wheat . " He finally made a decision that he would go back to his planet to take care of his rose . " My flower is ephemeral , and she has only four thorns to defend herself against the world . And I have left on my planet , all alone ! " , he said . Finally , the little prince made a poisonous snake bite him , for which he could get rid of the bondage of the body , back to his B-2 planet , back to his rose .

Sometimes we may meet something that attracts us , but being interested in doesn't equal to love . Truly love isn't temporary curiousness or interest . Months ago , I found a little cat on a lawn . He was so small , even didn't have any tooth . I brought it home , feed it with ewe's milk. She grows up , gradually and healthily . But as she can jump higher and higher and run faster and faster , I start feeling angry for the noise and damage he made . Sometimes I may shouted to her , even beat her. But now I know , it is love that makes me bring her up , then what I should do is not only feed her , but also tolerate her and bear the responsibility of her life . She is not the dirty little cat that was abandoned on the lawn , she now is a beautiful white cat that plays an important role in my life . To be honest , I still feel angry when she prostrate my cup or put garbage everywhere . But now , I more think it is my duty to clean the mass she made and teach her what is not allowed to do . As I love her , it is my duty . As I love her , she is unique among all the cats . Since we know that " Love is not only love , but love , duty and mercy . " , all the people and things we love become unique in all the world .
