My Review on The Five Boons of
After reading Mark Twain's The Five Boons of Life, I can not help asking myself if I can choose the five boons of life : fame, love, riches, pleasure and death, but only one of them, What to choose? Who does not want to have the prestige of admiration? Who does not desire to have the perfect marriage of love? Who does not pursue the precious wealth? Who can give up the joy of laughter? And who will take the initiative to choose the daunting death?
For the first time, the man can not wait to select the pleasure as his first gift from the fairy basket. Then he was addicted to have fun, when he had a deep thought, just frustration and falsity were left. He said that these years he had wasted . Why would he be so sigh?
As the saying goes, people lost in play will lose their aims. A person is too obsessed with the things to enjoy and spend a positive ambition, the teenager is the case. Who did not seek pleasure when young, but reality does not allow we do. There are more things that we need to do, we have to take up the responsibility. As for what is pleasure, I think that we can have a friend meet and talk anything interesting, or it can also be watching a good movie. In fact, happiness is infiltrated everywhere in our lives. Why the boy make pleasure become the final pain? The reason is that he is too indulge and lazy.
The second time, the boy has become a young man, he carefully selected the remaining four boons, he chose love. Years later, he kept the house alone, cursed love to sell him an hour of joy near the coffin of the last lover, and he needed to paid an hour of grief.
Love is how a beautiful thing since ancient times, which makes us full of hope for love, and even some regard love as their pursuit of life. But the boy reminded us that the reason why love is beautiful, because each partner's specificity and companionship.
The third time, the fairy patiently told him that there is only valuable boon, a man carefully selected after the fame, but this gives the man is reviled, contempt and compassion, why? I think because his empty inner can not support the famous global fame, like an ignorant rich man who will be hated. An ignorant people is difficult to obtain long-term success and respect from others. I imagine if he can continue to learn in the past few years, enrich his inner world, he may be find a balance, and have a happy and comfortable life. But he did not make his efforts, eventually only received a curse.
The fourth time, the fairy to comfort him, the most valuable thing still remain in the basket, a man was excited to choose the wealth, he said that he wanted to spend a lot of money, wanted only show off. Those who are used to ridicule and contempt will crawl in the sludge in my feet. I will use their jealousy to feed my hungry soul. At this point my anger into the protagonist of the mercy, how sad a person! He actually want to use to squander money to enrich the soul, and his sense of worth was so ridiculous. The next three years the man completely lost himself, wrong values brought him into the black. Many people dream of being rich men, and wealth can bring people high-quality material life make people live comfortably, but if people are not good at the management of riches, they also will fail.
The man suffered gnawing dry bread, whispering that pleasure, love, fame, riches are just some temporary camouflage, and their eternal truth is pain, sorrow, humiliation, poverty. Finally, he asked the fairy to let him rest, but death was not in the fairy's basket, she gave it to a child, and told the man you only suffer the dying year of capricious humiliation.
As far as i am concerned, I do not think that death will be the most precious boon, but rest is, because people who only live with no regret would choose to leave. Why the fairy decide to give the death to a child? May be the fairy thought the man was hopeless, after four choices he also did not know the value of life and he did not have the correct understanding. He did not struggle for his life, and he hurt others, but also ruined their own future. However the child is the world's most pure and beautiful people, he does not need guilt, so he deserves rest.
Pleasure, love, fame, riches, are just some temporary camouflage. Their eternal truth is pain, sadness, humiliation, poverty, and such negative words reveal a man's despair. In my opinion, these things are still boons of life, and no matter what we select, we need to cherish it.
The best outcome is absolutely that we can have these four boons, however, we also need another boon, wisdom. Life is full of all the temptation which confuse us. But what is important? What is secondary? What does not matter? When we face these choices, the problems will appear in our mind, so we must have enough wisdom to balance the job. But the wisdom of people has always been limited, so no one can have all the gifts of God. In this way people will be angry and lost, rather than correct their own values. So we need to think about what we want most, control our lust, and enjoy our life. When we are old, we can select the most precious gift of life, death and rest.
