The Temple of Heaven symbolizes the traditional concept of the round sky and the place in the ancient Chinese concept of the universe.
The plane of the inner and outer palace walls of the Temple of Heaven shows the form of the north circle and the south circle, which symbolizes the meaning of the heaven and the round place in the ancient Chinese concept of the universe. The prayer hall, the mound altar, the imperial dome and the outer wall all adopt a circular plan, covered with azure tiles, reflecting the symbolic meaning of "heaven". The prayer hall adopts a three-fold eaves, and the prayer valley altar and the mound altar adopt a three-tiered altar, and the number "three" here is a basic number of days in ancient China, which is obviously also an expression of the symbolic meaning of "heaven".
