Gu hongming (1857.7.18-1928.4.30), whose given name was tang sheng, whose given name was hongming and whose given name was licheng, described himself as the slum-people, people from north and south, east and west, and also called himself as Mr. Donghong, who read yi yi in hanbin. His English name was Tomson. His ancestral home is hui 'an county, fujian province. [1] he was born in penang, a British Malaysian island in nanyang. He learned many Chinese and western languages and was known as a "geek" in the late qing dynasty. He was proficient in 9 languages including English, French, German, Latin, Greek and malaya, and obtained 13 doctor's degrees. He was the first person in China who was proficient in western science, language and Oriental sinology in the qing dynasty.
