一种独一无二的精神:中国人的精神

After finishing this book, I can’t admire Gu’s English skills any more. Although it is a little difficult for me to understand the sentence.

When it comes to Chinese people, we usually evaluate them with the words kindgentle and so on. Whereas as early as more than one hundred years ago, a famous Chinese person had given a comprehensive understanding about Chinese spirit.

Gu Hong ming, who was a great philosopher at that time said Chinese people was deepbroadsimple and delicacy compared with AmericansBritish peopleGerman and French in his book ‘The Spirit of the Chinese People’, which is also called ‘Chun Chiu ta yi’

From my personal perspective, I totally agree with him. It was like 100 years ago, and it’s the same today.

First off, Chinese are deep. It is true in everyday life. They tend to conceal their real feelings, hiding their feelings deep in heart, most of whom are fond of thinking deeply. They are usually introversion but think carefully about things. Furthermore, broad. 5000 years of Chinese culture shape the personality of broad. So they are more tolerant than others. On top of that, simple. China has been agricultural society since primitive society. Unlike the United Kingdom, which has stepped into industrial society since 1760s. Industrial makes people savage, that is why the two Opium wars broke out. While agricultural creates simple people and Chinese agricultural creates Chinese simple people. Last but not least, delicacy, which can be separated agile and smart. Chinese eating habits decide their petite body which has an advantage on some sports that require agile like table tennis and badminton. Smart manifests in four ancient Chinese major inventions, which has made great contributions for the development of the world.

In his book, Gu also said that the total impression which the Chinese type of humanity makes upon you is that he is gentle, that he is in expressibly gentle, which is different from the savagery of Westerners. Chinese people’s gentle isn’t with the imate, instead, Confucian thought played an important role in it. In one of his famous books ‘The Analects of Confucius’, ‘Gentleman’ is the most frequently appearing word. Almost every sentence has this word. With the influence of Confucius, Chinese became gentle gradually. Just as the writer said:’  In this State religion Confucius taught that the only true, rational, permanent and absolute basis, not only of a State, but of all Society and civilization, is this law of the gentleman, the sense of honor in man.’

The spirit of Chinese people is young forever, it is an immortal national spirit. But why can Chinese spirit stay young forever? The answer is Chinese culture. Thousands years’ Chinese civilization differs from the disputed struggle in the process of the development of modern European civilization, and Chinese people’s thirst for religion is not as eagerly as Westerners, in other words, Chinese don’t has religion, instead, a complete set of philosophy and ethical and moral system---Confucian thought take place of it.

As a result, the spirit of Chinese people is a special and noble spirit.
