As we all the writer have a good command of English,French,German,Latin,Greek and Malaya.And I think he is one of the great translators in China.He had translated The Analects,The Doctrine of the Mean and The Great Learning.He indeed make a big difference of Chinese civilization.

This book is one of the most famous books that he had writed.In this book he compared Chinese with English,Germans and French to explian Chinese have depth,broadness,siplicity and intelligence.

He used ‘gental’ to describe a man in China.By the word ‘gentle’ he mean absence of hardness.harshness,roughness,or violence.

And he used the two Chinese words yuhsien(幽闲) which,in the quotation he gave above from the ‘Lessons for Women’,’by Lady T’SAO,-he translated as mosdety and cheerfuiness.In China the ture feminine ideal is the house wife.Women should observe three obediences(三从) and four virtues(四德).Today Chinese women not only be the house wife but also be career wife.

In this book he used Confucius to expain.He used li(礼)to explain if we will study and try to acquire the fine feeling or good taste of gentleman.And he think all true human emotions contained in that Chinese word Jen(仁).He think Confucius give us the concept of a contruy.This concept even can be understand it is a kind of religion.

He think Chinese live a life of the heart-a life of emotion or human affection.He think Chinese people need not religion because we have in Confucianism a systen of philosophy and ethics.

In China there are many produces and rules in marrige.Every produces and rules isimport if miss out a produce or violationa rule maybe this marrage will not perfect.He had expiained concubinage in China.A husband can have many wife.But in fact a husband can only have a wife the other are concubines.And he explain the husband love his all wifes.But I think a man have many wifes at same time is not moral and today it is illegitimate.

He think Chinese language is easy and difficult.Spoken Chinese is easy because it is an extremely simple language.It is a language whithout case,without tense,without regular and irredular verbs;in fact without grammar.or any ruie whatever.And spoken Chinese is difficult because the language of uneducated men,of tuoroughly uneeducated men;in fact the language of a child.And the written Chinese is easy because like the spoken or colloquial Chinese,it is extremely simple,written Chinese even when dressed in full court dress uniform.But written is difficult because it is a language for expressing deep feeling in simple language.Chinese language is easy and difficult maybe this is the Chinese languang’s charm.
