Confidence

Heartfelt Wish
This winter holiday, I read a book called <The Spirit of the Chinese People>.From my personal perspective, it conveyed the great belief in our nation and the firm trust in our nation’s bright future. In writer’s era, China seemed to be in a mess with low development rate and people suffered from the violation of other countries. However, he believed in our nation. In the book, he compared the Chinese with some other countries’ people, such as French, Germans and so on. And after the comparison, he still thought that our Chinese are the best. It is necessary that we Chinese today should develop the sense of national confidence.
What impressed me most is the chapter called <The Chinese Woman>.Because I am a girl, I care much about what others think about us. In the chapter, he wrote about three obedience and four virtues, which is very famous and seems to be very principle to women not only in China but also in other countries. From this book, I learned how to be a lovable girl and how to love people around us and to be loved by them. But in the book, there also were something used to be very usual, but when it comes to today, it seems to be a little weird. It was about polygamy. When we came to our first English unit, our teacher told us about monogamy and polygamy. In some countries, polygamy is still legal. But in China, where used to be polygamy, we women cannot accept polygamy again. We or simply to say I, cannot accept what in the book called to be selflessness. I think true love means a couple for life, which can be translated very awesome in Chinese. After going on to reading, I found that the author claimed when the husband wanted a concubinage, he would go for his wife for advice. If his wife did not agree, he would not have a concubinage. I think this is the basic respect from husband to wife, and even in today, this respect is also very essential to build the relationship between the couple.
I think reading this book in the beginning is very difficult to me because I think it is too academic and cannot boost my interest. But after reading 10%, I seemed to be attracted by the author’s words and what’s more, the national confidence conveyed in the book. To these days, we China develops very fast and the economy boosts rapidly, but there still remain some unwelcomed behaviors, such as spit on the floor and make a racket in public. I owe all these bad behaviors to the lack of confidence, or to say, they merely do not want to establish a good Chinese image. If we are full of national confidence, we surely want to be a model before others, before the eyes of the world. So the more you read, the more you want to be a good person, not only for yourself, but also for someone beside you, called the Chinese.
