  Gu Hongming's name is not unfamiliar to me. When he was in junior high school, his Chinese teacher often mentioned him in class. His face was strangled and he often exclaimed that the world could not understand such patriotic genius. At that time, I couldn't understand the teacher's worship very well. I often wondered if it was a pedantic and stubborn weird old man. Wasn't it the "feudal evils" with old ideas? Is it worthwhile?
  
  Later, after reading Gu Hongming's The Spirit of the Chinese People, it was found that his patriotism was pure patriotism without any impurities, which covered his weirdness, his feudalism, his conservatism and his pedantry. He was probably the most amazing scholar in that era. Gu Hongming had 13 PhD degrees in his life. He was educated in the West for many years. He should have a Western mind. However, the image he left behind for his descendants is absolutely "Chinese" style. However, his Spirit of the Chinese is to reveal the spiritual life of the Chinese people, promote the value of Chinese traditional culture, and advocate the theory of saving the West by Confucian civilization. In this book, he also talks about democracy, Chinese language, war and so on, although we now seem to have limitations, but his sharp pen and unique insights still make you feel admired. Of course, the whole article does not mean that all of them agree with him, but his intention to write this book to safeguard China's innocence can be seen, which is already worthy of our admiration.
  After reading this book, I wonder what is the "spirit of the Chinese people"?
  In those days, China was in danger of being poor and weak. Whether Chinese nationals in China or overseas Chinese, they rose up one after another, and had money to pay for it, and made a strong contribution to it. Chinese children and sons went to the country together to fight the national calamity and humiliation with one heart and one mind. "When the Chinese nation is at its most dangerous moment," and "All the people are united in their efforts and brave the enemy's artillery fire - advancing!" All of us have made great efforts to achieve national independence and liberation. The people of all nationalities, democratic parties and the people of all nationalities work together in harmony. Finally, we have completed our "great cause of nation-building", and the Chinese sleeping lion has stood up since then.
  When living abroad, Mr. Qian Xuesen swore, "China is my eternal home", which is the "Chinese spirit" of an overseas son. I think as a Chinese, no matter where you are, as long as your roots are in China, you always want to return to your mother's embrace, so that the leaves will come to their roots.
  
  It is undeniable that the "Chinese spirit" emphasized by Gu Hongming is indeed desirable and missed. In the comparison between Chinese and Westerners, Chinese culture and Western culture, Mr. Lao advocated Chinese culture and Confucian culture. He believed that Chinese people were deep, broad, simple and sensitive. In this article, Mr. Gu reveals the spiritual life of the Chinese people, propagates the value of traditional Chinese culture, advocates Confucian civilization and rescues Western civilization, which aroused great repercussions in the West at that time.
