The spirit of the Chinese people

With the development of economy in China, the life of Chinese has become better while the true spirit of China gradually disappear. As a Chinese person, we should believe that the Chinese people are unique, and the Chinese spirit is also unique. Dating back to the time which Gu lived , the spirit of the traditional Chinese people was being crushed by the advanced western civilization. Gu saw this tragic situation and intended to find something valuable from the tradition and put it on the Chinese people at that time, so as to prove the superiority of the tradition.
What is the spirit and the value of the Chinese civilization？It is deep，simple and broad. Chinese people are docile. Even if a real Chinese person has many shortcomings, he will rarely make others dislike him. The Chinese Bible-the Five Canons and Four Books in China, the plan of civilization which Confucius saved for us the Chinese nation, teaches us Chinese also love righteousness; to be righteous men, to do right but with good taste.
What is the real Chinaman? He is a man who lives the life of a man of adult reason with simple heart of a child, and the spirit of the Chinese people is a happy union of soul with intellect which makes them so satisfying and delightful. The spirit of the Chinese people is a state of mind, a temper of the soul, a serene and blessed mood.
There is no religion in China, but China stands tall in the world for thousands of years and has a long history of culture because of the existence of Confucianism. Confucianism is undoubtedly great, it plays a role in place of religion, it can let people do something when there is no religion, it makes everyone have a belief in the heart, become a gentleman.
Actually talking about the Chinese women, I could not agree what he said in this book completely. Gu considered that the Chinese gentlewomen or ladies with herdebonair charm and grace is the guardian angel of the miniature heaven. her purity, her pudeur, and above all, her religion of selflessness protects the home in China ,. while must women do housework and take care of the family the whole life? In my opinion, women is equal with man. They can also work outside and enjoy the life which they are eager to.
Chinese is a language of the mind. It is difficult to learn it by using the mind and intellect，because the Chinese use their own heart to remember.The Chinese have wonderful memories.
The real Chinese politeness is from the heart, from the spiritual level, is a kind of absolute respect for others polite, and Japanese people in general rigid politeness is completely different. Therefore, Chinese people live a spiritual life, Chinese people's life lacks accuracy, but they have a polite way to care for and respect others, have wonderful memories, have spiritual language
Of course, some of Gu's ideas are pedantic, backward and old-fashioned, such as the concept of women. However, we cannot ignore his contribution to the propaganda of Oriental civilization. As a Chinese person, we should be proud. We should be brave to say that China is a great country and the spirit of China is still worth to be learnt.
