书评 有感
Since the late Qing Dynasty, the image of China has been seriously distorted. Gu Hongming, a maverick "old monster" who has studied Chinese and Western culture, published the "Chinese Spirit" written in English in the English newspaper "China Review" in 1914. He used his pen to maintain the dignity of Chinese culture and changed a part of Westerners’ prejudice against China. This book came out and then sensationalized the West. As a result, at the beginning of the 20th century, Westerners had a saying: You can go to China without visiting the Forbidden City. But you can’t go to China without seeing Gu hongming. This shows his influence in society at the time.
The Chinese are unique and the Chinese spirit is unique as well. However, in the era when Gu Hongming was lived, the spirit of the traditional Chinese was suppressed by the so-called advanced Western civilization, and everyone loathed it. When he witnessed such a tragic situation, He intended to find some valuable things from the traditional culture to the Chinese people at the time to prove the superiority of the Chinese tradition and to shape the progressive, modern Chinese.Gu Hongming summarized the Chinese spirit into the following aspects: The first spirit of the Chinese is gentlemanship. Gentleness is not the nature of weakness, nor of vulnerability, but not tough, harsh, rude and violent. The second spirit is strong compassion, because almost all Chinese live in a strong compassion. This is a kind of spiritual life and a feeling of life.
The spirit of the Chinese is a spirit of eternal youth and an immortal national soul. From the details of real life we can find that the spirit of the Chinese is everywhere, as long as we are good at observing, we can find it. There are also many ancient spirits of the Chinese that we can inherit. In the current era, when we treat the spirit of the Chinese people, we should also "take the essence and go to its dross", and we must learn from other countries' excellent cultures so that the Chinese nation can carry forward. As a Chinese in the new era, I believe that we should learn from the useful parts of the book and strive to be a deep, broad, simple and sensitive person.
