After reading this book, I feel that although the content seems dull, it is actually worth reading. Many people may say that this book is lack of logic. But I think this book is logical. The writer always states his view, and then gives a variety of examples. Of course, Mr. Gu comes to conclusion in the end.
This book tells about the Chinese spirit in many aspects, making us know the true characters of Chinese. It summarizes the differences between men and women and their respective requirements. Besides, it also tells about the Chinese language. They all say that language is the witness of a nation's development, and that it can effectively show the spirit of the Chinese people.
I know from the book that Chinese people have been different from the West since ancient times. Influenced by Confucius, Chinese people attach great importance to kinship and yearn for the life of men cultivating women weaving. The difference between Chinese and foreigners lies in their pure wisdom and sense of justice. And there is less violence among Chinese people. Since ancient times, we have attached great importance to etiquette. We do not need such religion as Christianity. The function of religion has been completely replaced by Confucianism. And the Confucianism plays a great important role in educating people. Therefore, it also shows that we are different from foreigners.
In my opinion, Mr. Gu wrote this article is to let foreigners understand that although China is now seemingly full of sorrow and devastation, the Chinese civilization has never been lost. It is closely attached to every Chinese people unless the Chinese nation perishes, thoroughly and thoroughly. So please foreigners take a good look and have a deep understanding of Chinese civilization. What’s more, Mr. Gu hopes Chinese people could get up and get rid of the ignorance.
All of these principles mentioned by Gu Hongming have been discussed over and over. And I think the significance of reading this book is not to re-understand these principles but to make them come true. We need to understand the point of this book, to learn what we should do and what we should be. It sounds like that it’s easy to be a true Chinese. However, that is not the case. First and foremost, we must have a deep understanding of our culture and be confident. And then we should develop our cultures, making foreigners know our culture deeper. There are also numerous means to do it. Everyone should spare no efforts to make the principles come true and let the whole people understand our culture.
To conclude, this book is well worth reading. Not only because it is written by the master, but also it tells us what the Chinese spirit is, and gives us some guidance in contemporary life, so as to prevent us from gradually losing ourselves in the life of paper intoxication. Not only should every student read this book, but every adult should read it, too.
