In this book <the spirit of Chinese people>,we got the perspective about how to regard Chinese spirit. The author of this book, Hongmin Gu, has a nickname called Crazy Hu, on the consequence of his accurate writing style. However, in the era when the Qing Dynasty was falling, as a scholar with language talent, Hongmin Gu was seen as a low state in foreign countries.
With this suffering experience, Hongmin Gu has more insight understanding in the difference between Chinese and foreign.
In the myth field, although Chinese and foreign both have roles ‘immortal’ or ‘god’, Chinese gods always protect this world by their super strength, like ‘Nv Wa’ fits sky、’Jing Wei’ fills sea、’Yu Gong’ moves mountain…On the contrary, foreign gods are more likely to war or quarrel. It’s strongly believed that, Chinese people repose their spirits, which is people could defeat natural disaster by themselves, to the immortals in the myth. From this perspective, we can observe that, Chinese people are aware of being constantly strive to fight with any disasters. In that period, Hongmin Gu as a Qing Dynasty citizen realized this belief better and deeplier.
In this book, the spirit of Chinese people is a state of peace and blessed. The author compared four countries and got the conclusion that: Only Chinese people behave liberal、calm、honest and intellectual. This four feature constitute the spirit of Chinese. By compared four countries‘ culture， Hongmin Gu got the conclusion that, the spirit of Chinese people is the best culture.
As far as I’m concerned, the spirit of Chinese may not as excellent as Hongmin Gu had described, but it still behaves many advantages. Tracing back to the past, China had suffered thousands of natural disaster、revolution、foreign invading and occupying… However, Chinese people never give up to the predicament, they fight with their own strength, as the national anthem lyric says: The people who is unwilling to be servant should be adamancy and united. And we face directly to enemy’s fire, charge forward until get victory.
Besides, Chinese people have another strength source, which is honorary award in every Chinese people’s heart. In China, people mostly say that they are the sons of emperor “yan” and emperor ”huang”. Out of the sense of Chinese cultural belonging, Chinese people are proud of their birth as a Chinese.
Many foreign people behave intellectually when they describe the spirit of Chinese. On the contrary, at the moment that Chinese people describe ourselves, we can not help but it must being mixed up with Chinese personal( or national) emotions. Nowadays, there still are many young people admire other countries’ culture, meanwhile, they dislike the spirit of Chinese and even criticize it. Recently, some adolescents gave Japanese military salute in front of The victims of the Nanjing Massacre Memorial Hall. Obviously, it’s unbelievable and scandalous for Chinese social. To avoid it happening again, we should strengthen the education of nationalism, and keep the spirit of Chinese alive.
