after reading t
sleepovers
There is no denying that this is a good book, a book across the ages. But we have to see it in the right perspective. After all, this is a book from 1910, and some of its ideas are outdated and quite different from the facts of the day. Because people in that same country keep the same blood, there are so many place that we can learn. This book has been published in a time of severe distortion in the Chinese image, and the author of the book ,Hongming Gu,has used his pen to preserve the dignity of Chinese culture, and has changed some of the western prejudice against China. He not only described the unique culture of China, including thoughts, language and so on, but also compared these with other countries. He never denied the merits of other countries; he acknowledged the broadness of the americans, the depth of the English, the sagacity of the French, and said that the Chinese were the only ones who had made it all together. He, a returned student, experienced the advanced opening of foreign countries at that time, but he was still full of confidence and pride in Chinese people and Chinese spirit. One of my favorite sentences is “the people of Europe will find this new moral force in China ── in the Chinese civilization. The moral force in the Chinese civilization which can help make militarism unnecessary is the Religion of good citizenship.” I think this is the best refutation and counterattack to the "Chinese people having not belief".I think it is a good book worth reading for all of us.
