The Spirit of the Chinese People
The Spirit of the Chinese People
Recently, I finished reading Mr. Gu Hongming's "Chinese Spirit" in a piecemeal time. The content of it made me understand the broad and profound Chinese culture and the true Chinese spirit more deeply.
The author of this book, Mr. Gu Hongming, is a knowledgeable Chinese and Western scholar, known as the "weird hero at the end of the Qing Dynasty", and is the first Chinese person who is proficient in Western science, language and Oriental Chinese studies in the Manchu and Qing Dynasties. At the beginning of the 20th century, a word was once circulated in the West that Gu Hongming could not be ignored in China without seeing the Forbidden City.It can be seen that he was influential in society at that time.
Chinese etiquette, learn to follow the rules correctly. This is the secret of Chinese civilization, doing the right thing and abiding by etiquette and law. It is the essence and soul of Chinese civilization and the essence of Chinese spirit.
So what are their performances, or what details can reflect the spirit of the Chinese people?
In the book, Gu Hongming believes that in order to evaluate a civilization, we must see what kind of people it can produce, what kind of men and women. He criticized missionaries and Sinologists who were "known as the authority of the study of Chinese civilization" for "not really understanding the Chinese people and the Chinese language".He pointed out originally that "to understand the real Chinese and Chinese civilization, that person must be deep, broad and simple", because "the three characteristics of Chinese character and Chinese civilization are precisely deep, broad and simple, in addition to"sensitivity".
What is the Chinese spirit? That's not so easy to answer. This book expounds the Chinese spirit through the following aspects: Chinese Spirit, Chinese Women, Chinese Language, John in China, a Sinologist, and Chinese Studies.Mr. Gu Lao deeply analyzed the Chinese spirit through many examples and comparisons. I think that Chinese modesty is the most valuable and needs to be continued. The Chinese spirit should also "take its essence and go to its dregs" and learn from other people's good points, so that the Chinese nation can develop and flourish without being bullied by the Eight-Power Allied Forces during the invasion of China. As a Chinese in the new era, I think we should learn from the useful parts of the book and strive to be a deep, broad, simple and sensitive person.
