Getting on is a short story by D.H. Lawrence. Through this novel, the author recalled every detail of his life with his mother. The author's mother is a city girl and her father is a coal miner. They live in extreme poverty. His mother hated poverty, admired and longed for all success -- money and status. She had conflicting feelings about her husband and children, loving them and belittling them. She wanted Lawrence to get ahead and wanted her children to succeed. The author likes writing, but his mother does not like him to write, even looks down on his writing, and he insisted on writing, finally let his mother see his work. Though his mother later died, he was curious about what she would say about her work. This article expresses the author's nostalgia for his mother.
