The outline of this story is that a poor officer named Gatsby made great efforts to become a richer, whose aim was meeting his dream lover Daisy again. However, he was framed to die by daisy and her husband at the end. In general, it is a tragedy. Gatsby was unfortunate. He lived in his fantasy and idealized Daisy from beginning to end. Although he knowed Daisy did not love him any more and desired for money and status, he was still stubborn to think their relationships could become as intimate as five years ago and devoted himself to make it come true. Therefore, he died without realizing Daisy's mock at last. Besides, the character of Daisy was interested. At the beginning of this novel, she was attractive and full of passion. Her purity and loveliness made others be fond of her. As the plot developed, we could gradually know that wasn't her essence. In fact, she was insincere and secular. The background of the novel was in a period of that people judged person's achievement by treasure. At that time, the view of being industrious and frugal was substituted by hedonism of consumption. People wrere crazy in earning money. These situations all reacted in the novel. Nick, the main speaker in this story, finally left the noisy, illusory and offish metropolis and came back home town with sorrow. In my opinion, the author's feelings about the society were known through Nick.
