Mencius, one of the most famous philosophers in ancient China, had
profound thoughts about the concept of the "Great Man".
According to Mencius, a "Great Man" is not determined by his
status or wealth, but by his moral character. He believed that everyone
has the potential to become a "Great Man" as long as they
cultivate their inherent virtues, such as benevolence, righteousness,
propriety, and wisdom, and put them into practice in daily life. Mencius
held that a Great Man would feel the pains and joys of his people as his
own, thereby setting an example for others to follow.
