    Chance is a novel written when the suffragette movement was first bringing women’s rights to public attention. It is the story of Flora de Barral, who is left without resources when her father is sent to prison. Later, she is exploited by Mrs. Fyne, a "feminist," who attempts to mold Flora for her own purposes. And, finally, Flora is at the mercy of a husband who casts her in a dependent role.

    Joseph Conrad(3 December 1857 – 3 August 1927) was a Polish author who wrote in English after settling in England.He wrote stories and novels, often with a nautical setting, that depict trials of the human spirit in the midst of an indifferent universe. He was a master prose stylist who brought a distinctly non-English sensibility into English literature.
