听风说梦
“The major did not marry her in the spring, or any other time....” 全部笔记(1) 去书内
This short story is Hemingway's autobiographical writing. He fell in love with a nurse during the first world war but they never got married just as the story was told. Hemingway did not name the male character in the story but it's probably Nick because the mail was sent to Chicago which was Nick's hometown. If it's Nick, he had a love before. It's not fair to say their love is adolescent love. It shows that woman is as unstable as water. Hemingway shows a dark and pessimistic view of intimacy in the short story.
