  This chapter told us a love story between Mr. Duffy and Mrs. Sinico.Mrs. Sinico,a married woman,fell in love with Mr. Duffy after their deep interaction.They were both lonely.However,the protagonist couldn't accept her love out of morality.I thought that, the behavior of Mr. Duffy was correct.But because of his refusal,she chose to suiside.It was quite amazing and wordless.But from a critical thinking perspective,she should be sympathy due to the loniness.The title,A Painful Case,I think,means to reveal the pain of Mrs. Sinico that can't fall in love with the man who compensate her solitude.On the other hand,the title also uncovers the death of Mrs. Sinico and the regret of the protagonist.Was he to blame for his refusal?Was it correct to obey his thought from the bottom of his heart?

  In this chapter,the narrator centers on Maria,a woman who is short,has long nose and long chin.Despite the vulgar looking,she treats others in a kind way.Joe and most women and children who are familiar with her all said that she is a very nice woman.When she knew that the old gentleman she had met cheaed her,she was full of shame and disappointment.Luckily,after the comfort and advice that Joe had put forward,she fired her hope.On the Christmas Eve,all the people gathered together,she sang a song which made Joe so moved.The end centered on Joe.Actually,it centered on Maria through the emotions of Joe conveying.So far,I feel that each story of Duliner is very interesting.The title of every story has a deeper contonation,which is,to reveal the life of dubliners.The depiction of the end of each story is also unexpecting.Each time I read the ending,I felt that there is something keeping on.I think it is like an ending without ending.

  At the beginning of this chapter,I had thought that Fraggion was scolded because of his incompetence.Gradually,I found that Mr. Alleyn was a mean and unkind leader.Thus,The protagonist deserved to be sympathized.However,he was a bad guy who got triggered due to some trivials.He was not caring to look after his children which can be witness from the end of this chapter.The meanings of the title Counterparts,therefore,I argue,iterate that the man not only should be compassionated but also is repulsive.

  Little Chandler,the protagonist of this chapter,is an unfortune but fortune guy.He is unfortune because he was unable to see the world eight years ago and was trapped in family,which wasn't a shelter for him.However,he is lucky for he met with Little Gallher,who told Chandler the difference between Dublin and London and share many stories he experienced before.Little Chandler envied Gallher's life he had dreamed although Gallher said that the life outside actually was dangerous and most people were immoral.In the end of this chapter,why did Little Chandler tear with remorse.In my eyes,one of the reasons is that he repented because he can't go outside to pursed his dream like Little Gallher.The other reason of his tears is that he was trapped in the family he didn't like.This chapter just reveals the life of people in Dublin is painful and melancholy whether female or male.

  The ending of this chapter is so unexpecting because of the opened ending.No one knows the true ending between Mr. Doran and Polly Mosney.What's more,are Mr. Doran and Polly the protagonists of the story?Or is Mrs. Mosney the main character.According to the plot later,the protagonist is Mrs. Mosney.In my opinion,the love story between Mr. Doran and Polly is the very mirror that reflects the characterization of Mrs. Mosney.

  At the beggining of the story,through the colorful characterization of Eveline,we can't know who she is.Gradually,the protagogist is uncovered——Eveline.And so did Frank.They are wished to fall in love with.Unluckily,it was the bad ending at last.Eveline is kind,unhappy under the control of her family.Frank is also kind and he is the lover of Eveline.However,because of her kindness and hesitation,she can't go with Frank.The love stroy between Eveline and Frank reveals the painful life of some Dubliners.
