The theme: Love
When it comes to love, Wordsworth always presents it through objectives such as plants and celestial bodies instead of describing it directly. He can use some kinds of flowers which are related to love; he can show "his" love to the place in which "his" lovers lives; he can show "his" much love to "his" lover by comparing other ladies with the lover; he can mainly describe some remarkable feature about "his" love; or he can make up a dialogue to present what the true love is. And the following are more details about the theme.
[Untitled]She dwelt among the untrodden ways
The violet symbols eternal beauty and love. That means Lucy is beautiful and "my" love to her is eternal. The star is commom but also special to me. That means Lucy is special to me.
[Untitled]I travelled among unkown men
The poem apparently shows "my" love to England, but actually it shows "my" love to Lucy because England is homeland to her. The images of both England and Lucy meld into one.
These two poems above present "my" love to Lucy with fresh, plain and natural words.
To---
"I" comapare angles with Mary: angles are like bright suns without a spot, while Mary isn't perfect. But "I" still love Mary, because every beauty can't compare with her image in "my" heart. And why? "I" and Mary love each other. Beautiful appearance is inportant, but what is more important is that "we" have the same affection and values.
[Untitled]What heavenly smiles!
The poem describes "my" lover's smile. It can bring "me" light and warm, making my heart feel bright and warm.
The Waterfall and the Eglantine
Eglantien symbols the romantic love. This is a fantasy poem. Eglantine censures waterfall's ungratefulness. Because the waterfall once enjoyed pretty songs brought by the beautiful eglantine, and now it should threaten the leaves-less eglantine for blocking its way. If the poem is related love, then it presents a terrible love to readers. That is people have romantic love when they are young and their love become terrible when they are old. Of course, this is an abnormal attitude to love. No matter how old we are, we should keep romantic love.
