The Theme: War
张-瑛
The third part is more about the war against Napoleon, France. Wordsworth pays more attention to his motherland's fame and European political situation. So he wrote many poems appreciating those people who struggled for national independence and liberty and rebelled against Napoleon's invasion. In these poems, what impresses me a lot is "Thought of a Briron on the Subjugation of Switzerland". In the poem, he used "the sea" to refer to Britain and "the mountains" to Switzerland. Both Britain and Switzerland were liberal countries at that time. However, Switzerland lost its liberty because it was invaded by Napoleon. And Wordsworth appealed to people to protect the British liberty---the last liberty. Wordsworth used serious words and good example to show his idea of protecting British liberty, which attracted me a lot.
