Westerners once spread a saying: when you go to China, you can't ignore the three halls, but not gu hongming. In view of the above, gu hongming is qualified to compare eastern and western cultures. From a unique perspective, he compared Chinese with americans, British, germans and French, highlighting the characteristics of Chinese people. The English are deep and simple, but not grand; German broad, deep, and not simple; The French have no German natural deep, not as American broad-minded and the British heart simple, but have the three national lack of sensitivity; Only the Chinese people have all these four excellent spiritual qualities. For that reason, gu says, the overall impression is that the Chinese are "gentle" -- "kind of unspeakable". "The spirit of the Chinese people" should be a rare good book, it tells people at least such a truth, is not to lightly deny the tradition. In the same way, western learning cannot be denied lightly.
