读后感

"Knowledge is an end in itself" is the purpose of a university.What Newman emphasizes in this book is an ideal university state, that is, the university can give every student who comes here enough freedom to develop freely, to learn freely, to make the best of himself.After reading this book, people can not help but think of our country's university education.Think carefully and ideal state does have a big gap.First of all, utilitarianism is widespread in universities. Many job-seekers come to universities not with the pure mentality of seeking knowledge, but with knowledge as a means to gain fame, wealth, status and high income.Fewer and fewer people have a passion for knowledge.In this state, teachers' teaching and students' being taught are very restricted, how to talk about the free absorption of knowledge, and its purity?Secondly, cultural quality education courses do not have a deep impact on students, many students take cultural quality education courses as a task to complete, but do not grasp the essence of it.In fact, in order to do anything in the current society, all need some philosophical ideas to support, so it can be seen that students develop the importance of "philosophical habits".

     In my opinion, although the writing age of the book "the idea of university" is long gone, many of its ideas are still of great guiding significance to us.
