Wuthering Heights, as a masterpiece of 19th century English literature,
is different from any other works of the same period. It doesn't show
the noble life to the readers, also does not narrate the beautiful love
of young people. Instead, it tells a love tragedy and a revenge full of
hatred. The story of this book revolves around the love and hate of
Heathcliff. He was adopted by old Earnshaw, but he was bullied by
Hindley, so he germinated the seed of hatred. But in this period of
time, the kind and lovely Catherine became his light, he loved her
deeply. However, Catherine chose to marry Linton for fame and wealth
later, and became the mistress of Thrushcross Grange, which undoubtedly
caused great harm to Heathcliff, so in despair, he turned hatred into
reality, started his revenge, punished the next generation with the
previous generation's resentment. But even so, Heathcliff has always
been deeply in love with Catherine. His final suicide is also a kind of
martyrdom. After the goal of revenge is achieved, he can finally came
back to Catherine. The love story in this book may be sad, but it
vividly shows a picture of life in a deformed society and the distortion
of human nature in this context. In my opinion, Heathcliff's hate from
love must be ended by love. And this love tragedy is also worth a happy
ending—— after all kinds of love and hate, Heathcliff and Catherine will
finally get eternal peace.
