Merchant of Venice

In today's society, if a businessman wants to make money, he must work hard. But in Venice hundreds of years ago, there was a businessman named Shylock. He made his fortune not by hard work, but by usury. This man is the hero of the story.

This story was written by Shakespeare, the great British playwright and poet. Its name is the merchant of Venice. It is a comedy with great satire. It was made about 1596-1597. The theme of the play is to praise benevolence, friendship and love, and at the same time, it also reflects the contradiction between the commercial bourgeoisie and the usurer in the early stage of capitalism. It shows the author's humanistic thoughts on money, law and religion in bourgeois society.

The content of the story is: in order to help his good friend Bassanio propose to Portia, Antonio borrowed 3000 gold coins from Shylock, a Jewish usurer. Because Antonio lent money without interest, which affected his business and insulted him, Shylock took the opportunity to retaliate. He jokingly said in the contract that he would cut off a pound of flesh from Antonio to repay the debt if he could not pay the money within three months. Later, Bassanio's proposal was successful. Antonio could not pay back the money as scheduled because of the shipwreck. Shylock sued Antonio to fulfill his contract and cut a pound of flesh from his body.

On the day of the trial, porticia pretended to be Anthony's lawyer and Xi Antony defended. She saved Antony's life and punished Shylock in a clever way: the court ruled that only meat was allowed to be cut, no blood allowed, only a pound of flesh was allowed to be cut, no more or less was allowed, and even if it was the slightest, she had to sue the public for his life. Shylock was shocked and asked to return the original lawsuit. However, according to the law, Portia deprived Shylock of all his property, confiscated half of it and sentenced the other half to the injured party. Shylock lost the lawsuit completely.

After reading this story, I like the character Antonio created by the author. He is the representative of the emerging bourgeois businessmen. The author beautifies him. He cherished the friendship in the street and borrowed money from the usurer for the sake of his friend. He was magnanimous in the face of Shy lock's shameless conspiracy, but he was submissive: facing the threat of death, he was as fearless as an ancient Roman hero and looked at death as if he were dead.

It also benefited me a lot. It taught me the importance of friendship and kinship. In real life, we should not be vain. -Step - a footprint, solid to achieve. It's the same with study and work. Do everything must lay a good foundation, the consolidation of the lower level can make the project more attractive and successful. Only in this way can we slowly approach success, until we achieve the final success.
