The novel describes the experience and feelings of the young people at that time, showing the author's response to the feudal moral hierarchy and his strong request for individual liberation. The young Werther falls in love with a girl named Charlotte, who has been engaged to someone else. Werther was devastated by the setback in love. Later, Werther committed suicide because he was incompatible with the feudal society and felt hopeless about his future.
To be honest, I don't like this book . It's make me feel depressed while reading, but the entire book was the most widely read of Goethe's works by his contemporaries. I began to think about the theme in the book. First of all, the ending of Werther's suicide may be a little extreme, and I thought it was not advisable at first. However, after seeing all his experiences and his psychological activities, I suddenly felt that death was a relief to Werther. All hopes are dashed to pieces. A man may lose the support of life. So what we have to do is to adjust our mindset and re-choose our goals. Adjustment is very important for a person. All in all, we have to keep optimistic attitude to face the life.
