The Great Gatsby is a novella set in New Yourk city and Long Island in the 1920s by American author Francis Scott Key Fitzgerald published in 1925.Francis Scott Fitzgerald (1896-1940) was an American novelist. Born on September 24, 1896, in St. Paul, Minnesota. His father is a furniture dealer. He tried to write plays when he was young. After high school, he attended Princeton University. At school, he formed a drama group and wrote for the school's literary journals. Later, due to poor health, he dropped out of school. He joined the army in 1917 and was busy with military training all day long. After leaving the army, he kept writing part-time. He became famous for his novel Heaven On Earth, published in 1920, after which he married Giselda. After marriage, he lived in Paris with his wife and became acquainted with many American writers such as Anderson and Hemingway. The Great Gatsby was published in 1925, which established his position in the history of modern American literature. He became the spokesman of the "Jazz Age" and one of the representative writers of the "Lost Generation" in the 1920s.

The novel is told in the first person from the point of view of Nick Carraway, a writer who has never been known.
